struggle with spider veins. Spider veins can develop due to structural abnormalities in the blood vessels. Our veins use one-way valves to move blood in a single direction. When a vein’s one-way valve becomes defective or damaged, blood builds up and the subsequent pressure and blood pooling weaken the vessel wall. Spider veins develop when the affected blood vessels dilate and become engorged.

What To Expect At Your Vein Treatment
Preparing For Vein Treatment
At your consultation, it’s important to inform your vein specialist of any medical conditions including pregnancy, allergies, cold sores, and any medications you’re currently taking. Prior to your vein treatment, avoid sunbathing and do not use any self-tanning products for at least two weeks. Patients having veins removed from the legs and face should shave the treatment area the morning of the treatment and come to your appointment free of any lotions and/or serums.
Your Vein Treatment
At True Blue Aesthetics, we treat spider veins with YAG laser therapy. These treatments work by directing heat to the spider veins, damaging them and causing the formation of scar tissue. This effectively closes the vein which cuts off its blood supply and causes it to disappear. Our spider vein laser treatments can be done in a single or a series of sessions, depending on several factors including the size of the treatment area, the number of treatment areas, and if blood vessels are stacked.
Vein Treatment Recovery
We recommend elevating your legs as much as possible for 48 hours following your vein treatment and wearing a compression garment such as a support hose for a minimum of 72 hours. Keep the treatment areas clean and apply antibiotic ointment to promote faster healing. In some cases, treated skin can blister following vein treatment. Don’t scratch the blister as it can cause infection and/or permanent scarring. For best results, avoid any strenuous physical activity for at least 72 hours after your treatment and avoid direct sun exposure to treated areas for at least one week.

How Many Vein Treatment Sessions Will I Need?
Many patients see desired results after just one vein treatment. However, for those with many spider veins or those who require treatment in more than one area, multiple sessions may be necessary. The best way to determine the number of vein treatment sessions required to reach your cosmetic goals is to schedule a consultation with our vein specialist.
Are There Any Side Effects?
It’s common to experience mild swelling and redness for up to 48 hours following treatment. In some cases, this may last up to one week. Bruising is another common side effect of laser treatment which is temporary and typically dissipates within several days or weeks.
Is Vein Treatment with YAG Laser Painful?
It is possible to have pain from the treatment of larger veins for several days post-treatment. Tylenol and/or arnica are recommended for any discomfort.
Who Is A Candidate For Vein Treatment?
If you have concerns about unsightly spider veins, you may be a candidate for vein treatment. YAG laser vein treatment is not indicated for patients who are breastfeeding, pregnant, or being treated for certain types of cancer.
Are Vein Treatment Results Permanent?
Results can be long-lasting, however, individuals prone to developing spider veins may notice recurrence as they age.
